Percussionist Mark Katsaounis has played in symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles, percussion ensembles, steel bands, African drumming and dance groups, and World Music Fusion groups. Currently he is freelancing in the greater New York area. Mark has performed with ensembles and musicians such as The Glen Velez Frame Drums Ensemble, Percussion Group/Cincinnati, Ethos Percussion Group, Orchestra of St. Lukes, Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas, Rhythm Vocalist Lori Cotler, and Indian Dancer/Storyteller Rajika Puri. Additionally, he has been heard on live television and radio broadcasts in the U.S and Mexico. An active modern dance accompanist, Mark is a staff musician at The Alvin Ailey School and The Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City.

Mark earned his BM in percussion from The Hartt School of Music (U. of Hartford) and his MM in percussion from the College-Conservatory of Music (U. of Cincinnati), where he studied and performed with percussion Group/Cincinnati. He also studied extensively with frame drum virtuoso, Glen Velez. Although he is classically trained, Mark has spent many years studying drumming traditions from different parts of the world and has fused them to create his own unique sound.
